The virus resistance mechanism of the plant immune inducer ZNC revealed.

Plant pathogenic viruses are called “plant cancer”. Researches on searching and screening of natural anti-virus substances that can effectively control virus while being environmental friendly are very important.

April 15, Dr. Changxiang Zhu’s group in Shandong Agricultural University and Shandong Pengbo Biotechnology Co., Ltd co-authored a paper entitled “Ultrahigh-Activity Immune Inducer from Endophytic Fungi Induces Tobacco Resistance to Virus by SA Pathway and RNA Silencing” on international journal “BMC Plant Biology”. This is another important research finding after Dr. Xinhua Ding’s group who revealed the plant growth enhancement and anti-bacterial mechanism of the plant immune inducer ZNC. This paper systemically stated the antiviral mechanism of ZNC.

The immune inducer ZNC has good preventative effects against plant pathogenic virus while showed certain cure effects. Meanwhile, researchers found that the disease resistance strengthened as ZNC’s concentration increases. However, slight inhibition occurred to tobacco growth when concentration was higher than 200 ng/ml.

Dr. Changxiang Zhu stated that the ultrahigh activity of ZNC is very rare! She found that ZNC immune inducer can produce disease resistance at ng/ml (1/1000000000), and little time (within 2 hours) is needed for stimulating the up-regulated expression of plant resistant genes.

Dr. Zhu showed that ZNC promoted RNA silencing by salicylic acid (SA) accumulation. ZNC induced SA biosynthesis

by promoting PAL gene expression and triggered RNA silencing by SA signaling pathway. RNA silencing is an effective path for plant to resist virus infection. It can inhibit virus replication and infection by degrading virus genome.

Dr. Changxiang Zhu mentioned that finding ultralhigh activity substance from natural products is extremely meaningful! ZNC is extracts from wild plant root endophytic fungi, it is a new biostimulant with ultrahigh acitivity. With ZNC, plant can acquire systemic virus resistance by triggering SA signaling pathway through increased PAL gene expression and enhancing RNA silencing.
